What’s the Best New-Car Deal for Labor Day 2025?
Do you feel it there, on the breeze? The cicadas getting a little quieter in the evenings, the midday sun feeling slightly more than 7 inches away, children vanishing to schools and the sanity of clear, cool-headed rationale prevailing? Then you already know what’s coming: Labor Day. With summer car-shopping season a flurry of activity amid the ever-shifting tariff landscape, many in the market for a new car found one, but this weekend represents the traditional end of that push before the relative quietude of autumn — and if you’re still in the market, that means deals.

Though the latest report from J.D. Power revealed a projected 8.2% year-over-year increase in new-car sales, dealers are keeping up and incentives have stayed relatively stable during the same period. Days on lots increased from 48 to 51 days in August, and while incentive spending was up $38 over 2024, that’s a 0.1-percentage-point decrease. Still, offers are out there.
Take a look around and you’ll find there are a lot of leasing deals right now (including with electric vehicles), but the three selections you’ll find below are the best of the cash-back offers, meaning you walk out with money in your pocket straight off MSRP. Which are they? Read on to find out.

Following a big update for 2024 to combat the popularity of the rival Ford Bronco, Jeep made only minor alterations for the 2025 model year. Further incentivizing potential owners are the discounts you can find on all but the Rubicon 392: Jeep is offering $2,000 off most two-door variants and $2,500 off most four-door models in the regions we surveyed. It should be noted that the best deal by percentage, however, is the middle-tier, four-door-only Sahara, for which the brand is currently offering $4,000 off. In lieu of that, qualified shoppers can get financing of 6.9% for up to 72 months. All such offers end Sept. 2.

For the 2025 model year, Toyota expanded the Corolla sedan lineup with a throwback FX Edition that paid homage to one of the earliest hot hatches from any automaker, the late-’80s Corolla FX16. For 2026, the FX Edition sedan joins its inspiration in the past as the package migrates to the more historically accurate Corolla Hatchback.

Available in just three colors (white, orange and blue), the 2026 Corolla FX Edition sports white 18-inch wheels, a black roof-mounted spoiler (instead of the body-color piece on other Corolla Hatchbacks) and sport seats with orange stitching. Orange stitching also adds some pop to the door panels, steering wheel and shifter boot. Only 1,600 such examples will come to the U.S.
Release Date and Pricing
The 2026 Toyota Corolla Hatchback will go on sale in the fall. The Corolla hatch’s base price increases $400 from the 2025 model’s, but the extra coin nets blind spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert, which are now standard across the line. Full pricing (including the $1,195 destination charge) is as follows:
- SE: $25,375
- FX: $27,975
- XSE: $28,370
Trim Levels
The entry-level Corolla Hatchback SE starts out with 16-inch wheels, LED headlights and taillights, heated side mirrors, a body-color roof spoiler, remote keyless entry and push-button start. It’s upholstered in cloth and has manually adjustable front seats, automatic climate control, six speakers, and an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 is standard on every 2026 Corolla Hatchback. This suite of driver-assist tech includes forward collision warning with pedestrian and bicyclist detection, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-centering steering, lane departure steering assist, road-sign recognition and automatic high beams. As previously noted, blind spot monitors and rear cross-traffic alert are also standard for 2026.
The SE and XSE are available with a black roof in combination with certain body colors, but the FX Edition relies on its white wheels for visual flair. In addition to the orange stitching, it also includes heated front seats and a 7-inch digital gauge cluster.
The Corolla with the mostest, the XSE rides on dark-gray 18-inch wheels and features LED foglights, heated synthetic leather front seats with fabric inserts, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic climate control and eight speakers. Like the FX Edition, it also gets the digital instrument panel.

Powertrain Specs and MPG
Except for the 300-horsepower turbocharged GR Corolla hot hatch, every 2026 Corolla Hatchback is fitted with a 169-hp, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 151 pounds-feet of torque and is mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission. While all-wheel drive is standard on the GR, the standard hatchback is front-wheel drive only. Toyota says the SE is rated at 32/41/35 mpg city/highway/combined, while the XSE and FX Edition return 30/38/33 mpg, the former two trims the same as 2025 (official EPA estimates for 2026 are not yet available).

Ford’s record-setting year of recalls continues apace as, for its third safety missive of the day, it recalls 100,900 examples of its Ranger pickup truck over an issue with the side curtain airbags.

Affected vehicles include model-year 2024-26 Rangers. The side curtain airbags may come into contact with the B-pillar inner reinforcements and tear during deployment, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.
Dealers will resolve the issue by installing protective shields for free. Letters notifying owners of the issue are expected to be mailed Sept. 8; a second letter will be sent out once the remedy is available. Those with further questions can contact the automaker at 866-436-7332 (Ford’s number for this recall is 25C41), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236, or visit its website to check your vehicle identification number and learn more.
